Melody has been working in the social service industry since 2011 and graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours Bachelor Degree in Psychology in 2011 and a Masters of Social Work Degree in 2015. Melody has worked in children’s mental health since 2015 in a variety of capacities from mental health system navigation and advocacy work to parent education and capacity building. Melody practices from an attachment lens and is passionate about helping parents foster secure attachments with their children and youth. Melody completed her Circle of Security Parenting facilitation training in June 2018 and uses the key concepts in this program through all facets of her work with clients.
Melody has always been passionate about working with children/adolescents and ensuring that their voices are heard, and their needs are met. Throughout her education and career, Melody discovered how Attachment Theory aligns with this passion. Melody believes that building a secure attachment with your child is the best protective factor for a child as they grow and develop. Parenting is messy and it’s hard. Circle of Security Parenting offers a practical and easy-to-use framework for understanding and meeting your child’s emotional needs, which allows for parents to form that secure parent-child attachment.
Living in such a face-paced, nonstop society makes being a kid really hard these days. Kids are bombarded with pressures from all areas of their lives with little time to process their thoughts and feelings about what is going on in their lives. What we all need – kids especially – is to have a space where we can just be ourselves with no outside pressures. It is in these spaces that we can develop and learn how to make sense of our thoughts and feelings.
Melody provides trauma-informed, attachment-based parent counselling, Circle of Security Parenting for individuals and couples, and child counselling for kids 0-12 years old. Melody draws from different therapy modalities to address the needs of her clients. Melody desires to meet her clients where they are at, provide empathy and compassion, and explore with them how they can better understand their emotions and move forward as more confident individuals.
Counselling services offered by a Master level Registered Social Worker are covered by most private healthcare benefit plans.
Melody enjoys spending time with her family and friends and is the mother or four lively children. Melody loves being outside near any body of water, playing soccer, snowboarding, rock climbing, and thrifting.
