Shockwave therapy, also known as Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT), is a non-invasive treatment using acoustic sound waves to promote healing and reduce pain in tendons, ligaments, and other connective tissues, particularly for chronic conditions that haven't responded to other treatments. Shockwave therapy involves delivering a series of low-energy acoustic wave pulsations to the affected area through the skin via a gel medium. The acoustic waves stimulate the body's natural healing processes, promoting blood circulation, breaking down scar tissue or calcified deposits, and stimulating cells responsible for bone and connective tissue healing.
Conditions treated:
Tendinopathies: Achilles tendonitis, patellar tendonitis, tennis/golfer's elbow, & calcific tendonitis.
Foot problems: Plantar fasciitis, heel spurs and heel pain.
Other conditions: Rotator cuff issues, bursitis, myofascial trigger points in muscles, ITB syndrome, and injuries that haven't responded to other treatments.
Process:
Marli will assess your condition and create a treatment plan. The treatment involves applying a gel to the affected area and delivering the acoustic waves. Sessions typically last a few minutes and may require multiple treatments.
Benefits:
Non-invasive. Can help reduce pain and promote healing. May help avoid surgery or invasive treatments.
Potential side effects:
Some people may experience soreness, tenderness, redness, or localized swelling after treatment.
